Orthodontic Retention

You've worked hard for your beautiful smile; let's keep it that way!

Finally, your appliances have been removed and your smile is beautiful, straight, and best of all, metal-free! However, it is important for you to understand that your treatment is only partially complete. Due to the nature of teeth, they have a tendency to return to their original positions after orthodontic treatment. You'll need to wear a retainer to control or limit potential changes in tooth position. Clear, removable retainers are used in our office to stabilize teeth within their correct alignment while the surrounding gums, bone, and muscles adjust to the new positioning of your teeth. Our retainers look similar to clear aligners and offer a more aesthetic alternative to wire retainers. The clear retainer is designed to fit over your teeth and maintain their alignment.

Retainer care is simple. Brush them with your toothbrush and water (no toothpaste) every time you take them out of your mouth. If you cannot brush them, rinse them with water. Do not eat or drink anything other than water with your retainers in your mouth.

As part of your orthodontic treatment, the office has provided you with one set of retainers. If your retainers are lost, damaged, worn out, left out for too long, or do not fit after new dental work is completed, you will be responsible for the cost of replacing those retainers. If they no longer fit due to lack of wear or completed dental work, you may need a new digital scan prior to ordering your new retainers. Retainer Club:

Our office partners with Retainer Club to give you access to online ordering and fast home delivery of retainers. First, we take a quick digital scan of your teeth. Once Retainer Club receives the scan from our office, the patient information moves into an automated processing and manufacturing pipeline. Using your exact digital footprint, laboratory technicians use specialized dental equipment to fabricate your high-grade clear retainers. The material is molded to the exact specifications of your scan to help maintain your teeth in their proper alignment. That’s it! Our patients can manage their own retainers using the online portal to get regular, convenient retainer replacements shipped right to their door.
